There are plenty of free software available on the internet if you would like to copy songs from your iPod to a computer. This may happen when you had to reinstall your computer’s operating system or when your hard drive crashes and lost all your music on the computer.
One of the tools we always use is called Aimersoft iPod Copy Manager. This is a free software that you can download from the internet and install on your computer. It has a very simple interface and fairly easy to use. Once you have installed it and plugged your iPod, you will see something like shown on the screenshot below.

Copying songs from your iPod to your computer is simple
The right hand column shows all the songs on your iPod. On the left is where you specify the destination where you would like to copy the songs to i.e. your computer. You can copy all songs by selecting ‘Check All’ on the right hand column.
This program has some minor downsides. Firstly, it was quite slow in reading all the songs on the iPod. It took about 15-20 minutes just to identify all the songs on a 30GB iPod. Secondly, there seems to be an error with the copy progress indicator if your iPod contains videos. When we were using it, it was showing 100% complete but songs and videos were still being copied.
You can also try another software called YamiPod. However, we’ll leave it with you to test and consider which one suits you the best.
